I have not heard another subwoofer near this price perform this well.”

$200 PER PAIR PRICE DROP: Mirage OMD15 Floorstanding Speakers for $399.88 each ($799.76 per pair) with free S&H from Vanns (via Amazon)

Vanns (via Amazon Marketplace) has the Mirage OMD15 Floorstanding Loudspeaker in Black (shown above) or Rosewood for $399.88 each (you’ll need two: $799.76 for the pair) with free shipping and handling. That’s a drop of $200 per pair from just a few days ago. These originally retailed for close to $1250 apiece, and I couldn’t find a lower price for a new, sealed-box unit anywhere. I loved Mirage speakers when I first heard them back in the 80s, and have had a fondness for the brand since. The company is now owned by Klipsch. The review from ultraaudio.com is very positive — I’ve included the reviewer’s conclusion below:
As soon as I hooked up the Mirage OMD-15s, I could tell that they were excellent speakers, period. I don’t qualify that by saying that the OMD-15 sounded great for an Omnipolar speaker, or that I somehow had to get used to the “Omnipolar sound.” I’ve listened to many great-sounding Mirage loudspeakers over the years, some direct-radiating, some bipolar, and some Omnipolar. The OMD-15 is the best I’ve heard yet. While it lacks the razor-sharp imaging some audiophiles crave, it’s also true that many direct-radiating speakers don’t produce ultraprecise, pinpoint images either. It’s also a tad laid-back, but its deep soundstage extends well behind and to the sides of the speakers — and there was even a sense of height.
Before I received the OMD-15s, my previous experiences with Mirage speakers had already predisposed me to like these. And I did end up liking them, but not for the reasons I’d expected to. Yes, they had that uncanny ability to re-create a sense of space and that “big” sound that Mirage speakers are known for, but for me, those were not the OMD-15’s most impressive attributes. Instead, I found the OMD-15 to be an exceedingly well-balanced design that embodies all of the qualities of a true high-end loudspeaker.
Anyone looking for a speaker at or near $2500/pair should audition the Mirage OM Design OMD-15. Whatever your preconceptions about Omnipolar speakers might be, whether good or bad, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the OMD-15. You might even find them irresistible.

$400 PER PAIR PRICE DROP: Mirage OMD28 Rosewood (Ea) 2.5-Way OMNIPOLAR(TM) Floorstanding Loudspeaker for $1,299.88 each ($2,599.76 per pair) with free S&H from Vanns (via Amazon)

Vanns (via Amazon Marketplace) has the Mirage OMD28 Rosewood (Ea) 2.5-Way OMNIPOLAR(TM) Floorstanding Loudspeaker for $1,299.88 each ($2,599.76 per pair) with free shipping and handling. That’s a drop of $400 per pair from just a few days ago. These originally retailed for $7,500 a pair (they were the flagship speaker for the company), and I couldn’t find a lower price for these anywhere. [Update: They are also available in high gloss black at this link: Mirage OMD-28 - Speaker - 3-way - high-gloss black]. They received a glowing review from soundstageav.com. The reviewer concluded:

The OMD-28 appears to encompass everything the company knows about omnidirectional speaker technology, addressing shortcomings of the past and pushing through previous limits with their Omniguide approach. It’s built extremely well, and beautifully styled to make a visual statement commensurate with its performance. The fact that Mirage offers all this for only $7500/pair is as impressive as the speaker itself. The OM Design OMD-28 is a first-rate loudspeaker in every respect, and one of the best bargains in high-end audio today.

World Wide Stereo has the Mirage OS3 Floor Standing Speakers for $239 each ($478 per pair) with free shipping and handling (with coupon code “DA0628J”) (be sure to add two to the cart to get a pair).
