Amazon.com has the Harman Kardon HK 3390 2 x 80W Stereo Receiver for $228.99 with free shipping and handling. That beats my last mention of this product by $10 (back in early February). This is a nice entry level stereo receiver with a few features not found on competing products like front inputs and subwoofer connections. It also has a phono input for those of you still listening to your vinyl collections. This is as nice or nicer than competing models by denon or onkyo (I own receivers made by all three companies). If you’re looking for a receiver around which to build a system, you could do a lot worse…and at this price you’ll still be able to pay for those speakers you’ve been lusting after. The PSB Alpha B1′s I wrote about in an earlier post would be a nice match with this receiver.

J&R Music World has the Harmon Kardon HK 3490 2 x 120W Stereo Receiver for $299 with free shipping and handling. That’s the lowest price available anywhere, and the lowest I’ve ever seen for this model by $5 (after factoring in shipping). This is a high quality amp capable of driving most speakers and has all the bells and whistles you could ask for in a non-surround receiver. It offers 120 watts per channel (vs 80 watts per channel for the step down HK3390 — which is still a great receiver). Along with more power, the primary upgrade is the addition of digital inputs and digital signal processing (stereo only — not surround).

Electronics-Expo has the Harman Kardon AVR1600 7 x 50W 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver with HDMI 1.3a, Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio for $280 plus $19.99 shipping and handling (with coupon “LSDA0611″). Even with shipping, that’s the best price available anywhere by at least $30. This is Harman Kardon’s entry level home theater receiver. I have a similar 5.1 model (about 8 years old) that’s still the center of my family room system. The wattage ratings on the Harman products are conservative, and Harman amps are generally regarded as having excellent sound reproduction.

Electronics-Expo has the Harman Kardon AVR 3600 7 x 85W 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver for $580 plus $29.99 shipping and handling (with coupon “LSDA0524C”) (coupon expires 6/4/10) (after 6/4, you can use coupon “LSDA0528F” to get it for $599 plus $29.99 shipping). That’s $13 under my last mention of this product earlier this month, it’s still the best price available anywhere. It includes an iPod dock and a second zone remote. There hasn’t been much written about this receiver, but Audioholics gave it a “first look” back in September of 2009. This model is also almost identical in specifications to the now discontinued AVR 354 (priced at the same point in the Harman Kardon lineup), which received an excellent review from Electronics Made Easy. I have an earlier model Harman Kardon home theater receiver (bought in 2004) which is still the center of my family room system. Sound quality on my model is excellent, and reviews of other Harman Kardon receivers appear to agree that sound quality is the company’s strong suit.

Electronics-Expo has the Harmon Kardon HK 3490 2 x 120W Stereo Receiver for $275 plus $29.99 for shipping and handling (after coupon “LSDA0524F”) (coupon expires 6/4/10) (coupon will apply at checkout even if the lower price is not immediately reflected in the shopping cart). Even with shipping, that’s the lowest price available anywhere by at least $30, and the lowest I’ve even seen for this model. This is a high quality amp capable of driving most speakers and has all the bells and whistles you could ask for in a non-surround receiver. It offers 120 watts per channel (vs 80 watts per channel for the step down HK3390 — which is still a great receiver). No crazy deals jumping out today — but thought I’d share a couple links that are worth checking if you are browsing for speakers and/or electronics. Polk Audio has a direct outlet store on ebay — they sell new and refurbished speakers (other places to check for Polk’s to compare prices are Amazon.com and Newegg.com). Harman Audio (including Harman Kardon, Infinity and JBL) also has an ebay store. However, don’t assume the prices in these outlets are the lowest you can get — other retailers who are closing out a model or having a sale may beat the prices being bid in the auctions or in the “Buy it Now” sections. Every once in a while, however, you might find a particular auction or item which is interesting (and at a bargain price). Always check at least one of the other retailers above before pulling the trigger, just to make sure you are getting a deal. Also be sure you factor in shipping costs. If I see something especially interesting on either of these sites, I’ll post it.
