Adcom GFA-5500 Stereo Power Amplifier for $849 with free S&H from J&R Music World

J&R Music World has the highly regarded Adcom GFA-5500 Stereo Power Amplifier for a low $849 with free shipping and handling. Although $236 higher than a deal at Kmart back in March (which sold out fairly quickly), that’s still the lowest price I’ve seen at J&R and a few hundred dollars less than anywhere else. It normally sells for $1,499. This model is similar in specifications and operation to Adcom’s prior model GFA-555, which was the subject of this 1985 review by Stereophile (stereo technology hasn’t changed that much in the past 24 years). It puts out 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 350 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It can handle pretty much any speaker you throw at it.

Amazon has the Adcom GFA-6006 70-Watt 6-Channel 3-Zone Multi-Room Amplifier for $770.99 with free shipping and handling. Adcom GFA-555SE 2-Channel 200-Watt Amplifier for $793.33 ($500 off) with free S&H at OneCall (via Amazon)

OneCall (via Amazon) has the Adcom GFA-555SE 2-Channel 200-Watt Amplifier for $793.33 with free shipping and handling. That’s more than $500 below MSRP of $1,299. This is essentially a re-release/upgrade of Adcom’s prior model GFA-555, which was the subject of this 1985 review by Stereophile (stereo technology hasn’t changed that much in the past 24 years). It puts out 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 350 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It can handle pretty much any speaker you throw at it.

REFURB: Adcom GFA6002 Factory Renewed Single Zone 70 Watts x2 Amplifier for $399 with free S&H at OneCall.com

OneCall has the Adcom GFA6002 Factory Renewed Single Zone 70 Watts x2 Amplifier for $399 with free shipping and handling. That $165 lower than the best price available for a new, sealed-box unit. This power amp is intended for use in a second zone, but could also be used as a primary amp. Although I couldn’t find any expert reviews of this model, Adcom amps are generally regarded as having good build and sound quality.

SOLD OUT: Adcom GTP-602 Stereo Tuner Preamplifier for $549 with free S&H at JR.com

JR.com has the Adcom GTP-602 Stereo Tuner Preamplifier for $549 with free shipping and handling. The other reputable retailers are all selling this for $899. That’s a savings of $350. Adcom has stopped making stereo preamplifiers, so once the inventory in the pipeline has sold out, the only option (for buying this and other Adcom preamps) will be buying used. I’ve seen some mixed reviews on it (1 guy got a bad unit, 3 others seemed ecstatic about the sound). Consider combining this with the sick deals they’re having on the Adcom GFA-5500 Stereo Power Amplifier for $899 or the Adcom GFA-5400 2-Channel Stereo Power Amplifier for $499.
The Preamp has sold out as of 10:30am on 3/15/10.

Adcom GFA-5400 2-Channel Stereo Power Amplifier for $499 with free S&H at J&R

J&R Music World has the Adcom GFA-5400 2-Channel Stereo Power Amplifier for an extremely low price of $499 with free shipping and handling. I couldn’t find it anywhere else for less than close to $650, and most reputable retailers charge $799.  This amp puts out 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms. I couldn’t find a review of this specific model, but a number of adcom models have been reviewed over the years by Stereophile (search for Adcom).
