Vann’s (via Amazon) has the Klipsch F-3 Synergy FloorStanding Loudspeaker (Single, Black) for $249.88 each ($499.76 per pair) with free shipping and handling. That’s the lowest price I could find by $100 per pair. These are mentioned in a review by TechnoFile of a larger Klipsch system. The reviewer had this to say about them: “These are great rock ‘n roll speakers – and I don’t mean by that to say they only shine with rock music. In fact, I loved how they sounded regardless of what type of music I played, from The Who to Strauss, from big band to electronic. But with rock music (and also with particularly dynamic recording from other genres), there’s a wonderful “punch” to the sound, a dynamism that’s a joy to hear.”

Vann’s (via Amazon Marketplace) has the Klipsch Icon Series XB-10 – Left / right channel speakers – 50 Watt – 2-way – black for $199.88 with free shipping and handling. That’s a $50 drop from my last mention of this product in late June. It’s the lowest price I could find by at least $50 and $300 off retail.

Vann’s has the Sonus Faber Domus Concertino Bookshelf Speaker Pair (Teak Wood) for $999.88 with free shipping and handling. That’s $500 below MSRP and the lowest I could find for this highly rated set of bookshelf speakers (it’s $200 below a deal I posted a couple weeks ago). Check out page two of the review at UltimateAVmag for more information (the rest of the review covers the matching floorstanding and center channel speakers). Matching floor stands are available for $299.77 with free shipping and handling (a savings of $400 off MSRP).

World Wide Stereo has the Energy RC50 Reference Connoisseur Series Tower Loudspeaker – BLACK ASH (Single Speaker) for $349.97 each ($699.94 per pair) with free shipping and handling. That’s almost $900 per pair better than MSRP and the lowest I’ve seen for these floorstanding speakers. Check out the review at marketnews for more information on this model.

AudioAdvisor.com (via Amazon) has the Energy RC30 2-way black Reference Connoisseur series floorstanding speaker for $225 each ($550 per pair) with free shipping and handling. That’s $550 under retail per pair, and the beats my last mention of this product (a month ago) by $150 per pair. You can check out the detailed specifications on Energy’s website. This model is from Energy’s higher end “Reference” line. The only review I could find online is in Dutch (there’s a link on Energy’s site) so I can’t give you any specifics on these, but Energy is generally regarded as producing high quality products. They are a Canadian speaker company (now owned by Klipsch) which worked with the Canadian National Research Council (NRC) in some pioneering studies which sought to determine what measurable factors people equate with a good-sounding loudspeaker. That research is incorporated into their design philosophy.

These had been sold out since February 17 — but they’ve just come back into stock at J&R Music World. The Polk Audio RTi4 High Performance Bookshelf/On-Wall Speakers (Pair, Black) are available for $149.99 per pair at J&R (through Amazon). These speakers were $319.95 a pair when they were introduced 5 years ago. Robert Reina at Stereophile wrote a nice review back in October 2004, noting that: “ the Polk RTi4 holds its own against all competition, and should be given careful consideration by anyone looking for speakers costing less than $500/pair.” I’ve owned Polk speakers since 1986 (still have my original Monitor 5B’s), and bought Polk again when I outfitted by home theater system. I don’t know where the buyer at J&R is finding these, but I suspect they’ll sell out again quickly (perhaps for good). When I first posted these back in January, I thought they were a fantastic deal — I haven’t seen a better bargain in bookshelf speakers in the intervening 6 months (I’m partial to Polk — though some deals on Klipsch, Energy, and Jamo speakers have come close).

Vann’s has the Klipsch Icon WF-35 4-way Floorstanding Speakers in Cabernet or Espresso finish for $399.88 each ($799.76 per pair) with free shipping and handling. Newegg.com has the Polk Audio RTI A7-Black High Performance Floorstanding Loudspeaker Each for $379.99 each ($759.98 per pair) with free shipping and handling. That beats the best prior deal I’ve seen for these by $40 per pair. Here’s a review from hometheaterreview.com for this model.

Newegg.com has the Polk Audio RTI A5-Black High Performance Floorstanding Loudspeaker Each for $299 each ($598 per pair) with free shipping and handling. Best price available elsewhere is $450 each ($900 per pair). Savings: $302 per pair.

Newegg.com has the Polk Audio Monitor 40 Cherry Two-way bookshelf loudspeaker Pair for $99.99 per pair plus $2.99 shipping and handling. That beats a deal from March by $17 per pair and is the lowest I’ve seen these speakers this year. Check out the excellent review at onspeakers.com. I have to admit having a soft spot for Polks – I bought my Monitor 5B’s back in 1986 and they’re still set up in my living room.

Newegg.com has the Polk Audio Monitor 50 Two-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker Cherry for $84.99 each ($169.98 per pair) plus $2.99 for shipping ($5.98 per pair). That’s the best price I’ve seen for these speakers in the past six months. This is Polk’s least expensive floorstanding speaker, and is targeted at the first time audio buyer on a budget. That said, I’ve had Polk’s since 1986 (I bought what was then the near entry level Monitor 5B — and I’ve always been pleased with them).

Aperion Audio offers their Aperion INTIMUS 5B – Speaker – 2-way – high-gloss black for $225 each ($450 per pair) with free shipping and handling through Amazon marketplace. Aperion only sells direct, and these are not “discounted”, but Aperion’s liberal return policy makes these worth consideration (especially for those without the ability to audition loudspeakers nearby). They are “highly recommended” by Audioholics.
Here’s how Aperion describes their return policy:
About Aperion Audio
Aperion Audio is the first online direct-to-consumer speaker manufacturer focused on a quality customer experience that guarantees a totally risk-free buying experience. The company turned the entire industry on its ear and created the first Totally Risk-Free In-Home Auditiontm. All Aperion Audio customers get free shipping on all products and can audition their speakers in the comfort of their own home for 30 days. If unsatisfied for any reason, they can return their speakers for a full refund – and Aperion Audio even picks up the return shipping fees. If that’s not enough, all Aperion Audio products are backed by the industry’s most comprehensive 10-year warranty, a full-value one-year trade up program, free unlimited technical support with live chat, email, and toll-free calls.

B&H Photo Video has the Infinity Primus P362BK Dual 6-1/2″ 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker (Black) in stock for a low price of $168.99 each plus $34.50 for shipping and handling (when I last mentioned these in February, they were a special order item which required an additional 1-2 weeks for shipping). You’ll need to buy two, bringing the price for a pair to $337.98 plus $62.50 shipping and handling. Even with shipping and handling, that’s the best price I could find for a pair by more than $90. These are highly regarded floorstanding speakers –see Stereophile’s review of the prior model (almost identical).

OneCall.com still has the Denon S-5BD Integrated Home Theater Receiver/Blu Ray Player with the Klipsch HD 1000 5.1 Speaker Sysem for a combined $1,899 with free shipping and handling. The Denon unit alone sells for close to $1,800, and the speakers can’t be found for less than $500. So it’s like getting the speakers for $100 or the Denon for $1,300 — either way its a great deal for a slick new piece of equipment. Check out the first impression from audioholics for more on this newly released Denon model.

Newegg has the Klipsch HD 500 5.1 High Definition Theater system for $599.99 with free shipping and handling. Adding coupon code “FREEGFT71A” (expires 7/7) adds an ONKYO 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver TX-SR508 for “free”. I couldn’t find this combination elsewhere for less than $858 (The speakers are going for at least $549, and the receiver is going for a minimum of $309). This would make a nice starter system for someone getting their first surround system. You check check out the cnet reviews of the speakers and the Onkyo website for information on the receiver (it’s too new to have been fully reviewed – though Onkyo has a good reputation for building high quality receivers).

Even with shipping, it’s the best price I could find by at least $40 a pair and matches my last mention of this product (two weeks ago). This speaker is well regarded and received an excellent review from Stereophile.

The Polk Audio Direct store at ebay.com has refreshed its stock of LSi bookshelf speakers (search for “LS*” in the “Store search” box to see available models). Refurbished LSi9′s (pair) or LSi7′s (pair) can be had for “buy it now” prices of $699 (plus $30 shipping) and $399 to $549 (plus $30 shipping), respectively. Those prices are $260 below typical retail for the LSi9′s, and $220 to $370 below typical retail for the LSi7′s. Both would be at the top of my list if I was in the market for new speakers.
The LSi9′s have received excellent reviews. For instance, see the Soundstage review from April 2002. The reviewer’s conclusion:
The And Now for Something Completely Different attitude has worked well for Polk Audio. They’ve hit the bull’s-eye with the LSi9. Not only is it an exceedingly refined, first-class performer, it has specific sonic qualities that make it stand out in its price class. I really liked the combination of having a punchy and lively presentation, but also having the refinement and smoothness that I expect in a top-notch speaker. This speaker jumps to life like a Spring Break party, but retains the sophistication of a black-tie dinner. This combination is something you rarely find in small speakers at any price. The LSi9 also images with precision and provides a level of robustness that is thoroughly captivating. All this adds up to a level of performance that is ear-opening — and at just a smidgen over $1000.
The LSi7′s, while slightly smaller, got a nice review from Stereophile in March 2003. One soundbyte from that review: “In fact, I’ve heard no other speaker costing less than $2000/pair whose HF performance approached that of the Polk LSi7.”

Amazon has the Klipsch WF-34 Icon W Series Furniture-Grade Floorstanding Speaker (Cabernet, Each) or Klipsch WF-34 Icon W Series Furniture-Grade Floorstanding Speaker (Espresso, Each) for $349.99 each ($699.98 per pair) with free shipping and handling. That beats a deal from early April, when Onecall was selling these for $359.20 each (the lowest previously seen). These have a furniture grade real wood veneer finish, as compared to the more common RF series which are finished in vinyl. There’s a nice review at Home Entertainment Magazine which includes some great pictures, and another review at Audio Video Revolution which does a more thorough job of describing this speaker’s strengths (and weaknesses). Note in particular the discussion on the need for an extensive break-in period before these speakers reach their full potential.

Amazon has the Klipsch WB-14 Icon W Series Furniture-Grade Bookshelf Speakers (Cabernet, Pair) or the Klipsch WB-14 Icon W Series Furniture-Grade Bookshelf Speakers (Espresso, Pair)for $349.99 with free shipping and handling. That’s the lowest price available by $99. These have a furniture grade real wood veneer finish, as compared to the more common RF series which are finished in vinyl.
UPDATE 7/1: Price for both finishes has dropped to $299.88 per pair from Vann’s (be sure to select Vann’s in the “More Buying Choices” box on the right hand side of the screen).
