Amazon has the Thorens TD190 3-Speed Automatic Belt Drive Turntable (Black) for $402.88 with free shipping and handling. I couldn’t find it elsewhere for less than $499. If you still have 78rpm records, this is one of the better budget turntables which can handle them (without having to remove the platter). Check out the review from GoodSound! for more information.

Electronics-Expo has the Audio Technica ATLP120 Professional USB Turntable for $185.12 plus $12.99 shipping and handling (with coupon “EASTER5″) (note that the coupon will apply during checkout even if it does not appear to reduce the price in the shopping cart) (coupon expires 4/6/10). If the “EASTER5″ coupon has expired, try coupon “EDEALINFO”, which should provide the same discount (expiration unknown). Even with shipping, that’s the best price available anywhere. The cartridge included with this turntable easily goes for $80 on its own. This model (like its non-USB predecessor) has a good reputation for sound quality among lower-priced turntables. If you’re looking for something to have fun with (getting started listening to vinyl, or to listen to an old collection which is gathering dust), this is a pretty good option, especially at this price. In addition to coming with a nice cartridge, it includes all the cables and software needed to hook up to your amp/receiver and computer.

Etronics has the Technics SL-1200MK2 Direct Drive Turntable (Silver) for $531.85 with free shipping and handling. That’s the best price (in stock) I could find for this model. This is a workhorse turntable, favored by DJ’s for both its durability and good sound. You will need to buy a cartridge to go with it — you might consider an entry level Grado cartridge like the Grado – Prestige Black – MM Phono Cartridge which is available from several vendors at Amazon for $60 shipped.

Musiciansfriend.com has the Pro-Ject Debut III Audiophile Turntable Black for $296.65 with free shipping and handling (after coupon “BREAK”) (coupon expires 3/29/10). That’s $52 less than the best price available anywhere else. The coupon will work on other models as well, taking 15% off the listed price. Although the coupon is not reflected in the shopping cart, it will apply when added during final checkout (but before committing to the purchase). An Ortofon OM-5E cartridge is included.
Check out the recent review by Stereophile. This model is currently a contender for cheapest audiophile grade turntable.

Abe’s of Maine has Denon DP-200USB Fully Automatic Turntable with MP3 Encoder for $199 (after coupon “LOYALTY10″) plus $14.90 for shipping and handling. That’s $35 better than I could find this model anyplace else. There’s a nice review at Home Entertainment Magazine. While this isn’t “audiophile” grade, it comes with some nice software which identifies the tracks once they’re converted to MP3, and it can rip directly to a usb drive through a front port. Also has a built in preamp for those of you with a newer receiver lacking a phono input (it can be switched off if your amp/receiver has a phono input).

J&R has the Technics SL-1200MK2 Direct Drive Turntable – Silver (Open Box) for $404 (add coupon “PRESDAY” in the shopping cart to get this price). Shipping adds another $15 to $30, depending on destination. Even with shipping, this is still at least $100 below the best price I could find elsewhere for a new, sealed-box unit.
