The HRT – Music Streamer + has popped up at J&R Music World for $199 with free shipping and handling (It’s also available through J&R’s Amazon store at the same price, if you prefer). This is another product the guys over at Stereophile loved. It normally goes for $299 (Audio Advisor had it for $199.99 earlier this year but sold out). As Stereophile put it: “Would I spend $299 for access to exponentially more music than I have, played back with good if not great sound? You bet. If there’s another way in which so little money can bring so much music to an existing system, I haven’t heard it.” Another choice sound byte from the Stereophile review: “If you own a computer, if you don’t already own a USB DAC, and especially if you can’t afford the state of the art—either because you’ve already spent too much on a high-end CD player or you just plain don’t have that kind of money for hi-fi gear—then stop whatever you’re doing and buy a High Resolution Technologies Music Streamer+ right now. Given the musical pleasure it can bring, this moderately imperfect device is immoderately underpriced.” For $199, it’s an even better deal. I suspect that these will sell out now that the “model II” is on shelves.
