Parts Express has the Dayton B652 6-1/2″ 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair for $32.50 per pair plus shipping (approx. $11 – $18). That’s $7.50 higher than my last mention of these (back in May), but still won’t break the break. These normally wouldn’t have caught my eye, but they were the subject of a recent post on the Audiophiliac blog, which talked them up pretty well. The user reviews are also quite good. These fall into the category of speakers cheap enough that you don’t have to worry about them (good for dorms, offices, garages, workshops, or anyplace else where things might get swiped or destroyed).

Amazon has the Sennheiser SET830-S Stereo Sound Amplifier for $82.60 with free shipping and handling (a drop of $13 from two weeks ago). I couldn’t find it elsewhere for less than $179 (it retails for $329). This is essentially an infrared (IR) transmitter and receiver which allows you to use any pair of headphones to listen to TV (or any other audio source) wirelessly (within line of sight of the transmitter). Although it includes an induction loop for use with hearing aids, it does not need to be used — any headphones with a standard 3.5mm stereo plug will work. This technology is employed in the better sounding wireless headphones (it avoids the possible interference/static problems of RF wireless systems), and given the specs of this unit (see the Sennheiser website), it should pair nicely with your own headphones (assuming they are of decent quality).

AudioAdvisor (via Amazon) still has the Energy – Veritas V2.2 – 3-Way Tapered In-Wall Speaker with Installation Kit for $249.99 each with free shipping and handling. That’s $20 less than AudioAdvisor charges on its own website, and significantly below the original MSRP of $900 for this now discontinued speaker. Each package includes a single speaker. HomeTheaterTips.com listed this speaker as being in the “knock your socks off class”. Check out the Energy website for detailed specs.

Amazon has the Logitech Harmony 700 Rechargeable Remote with Color Screen for $77.98 with free shipping and handling after this $20 mail in rebate (purchase by 7/3 to qualify for rebate). That’s the best price available and beats my last mention of this product (in mid-May) by $7. This model received a rating of “excellent” in the review from cnet.

Electronics-Expo has the Tivoli Audio Henry Kloss Model One AM/FM Table Radio in Classic/Walnut for $105.59 plus $9.99 shipping and handling (with coupon “MP30″). Even with shipping, that’s the lowest price available by at least $30 (most are selling it for $149). The Tivoli Audio website has links to a whole host of reviews for this product, the vast majority of which are extremely positive. Cnet’s review is fairly balanced — praising its reception and sound quality, but knocking it for being only mono (not stereo) and lacking any alarm functionality.

Newegg.com has the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo AM/FM Stereo Radio w/ iPod Dock Bundle (Mist) for $99.99 with free shipping and handling. This model is now discontinued, but with the bundled iPod dock (not originally included), it is functionally equivalent to the “new” Horizon Duo-i (which has the dock built-in to the top of the unit). Check out the review by Cnet of the new model for an idea of what to expect. I almost bought one of these last year (when they were selling for $150 without the iPod dock), and read most of the user reviews available at that time — you can still check out the customer reviews at Amazon . Although not uniformly positive, some of the better written reviews are quite strong in recommending it based on sound quality.

PCRush.com has the Denon DRA-297 AM/FM Receiver for an extremely low price of $232.43. This is for a NEW unit — not refurbished. Shipping adds anywhere from $18 to $30. Even with shipping, it’s the best price for a new unit from a reputable retailer by $30 to $40. Those of you unfamiliar with PCRush can check out their profile on resellerratings.com.

Since last updating this post back in January, the price for the Creative Labs Xmod Wireless Music System with X-Fi Technology (via various vendors through Amazon Marketplace) has dropped from $44.38 to $36.06 with free shipping and handling. The wireless functionality on this unit gets mixed reviews (people either love it or hate it). However, aside from the wireless functionality (and even if the receiver was discarded entirely), the “transmitter” is essentially an external usb dac, at a price far below just about any comparable product (when introduced, it retailed for $200, and I wouldn’t purchase at that price point, but now that it’s under $50 $40, it deserves a serious look). It has a 3.5mm line out + headphone jack, integrated volume control, an additional input via rca jacks in the back. There’s an excellent article at VR-zone.com written by some folks who broke one of these open — there are two Wolfson WM8728′s (stereo DAC with a sampling frequency of up to 192kHz and a SNR of 106dB). Transmitter also contains a AKM 5357 (24bit/96kHz capable stereo low-powered ADC). For those of you in the market for a usb dac, the HRT Music Streamer+ I wrote about in January is also still available.

AudioAdvisor.com has the Musical Fidelity – A1 – Integrated Amp – 36 watts Class “A” on sale for $999.99 $849.99 plus $15 to $30 for standard shipping — half less than half the normal retail of $2,000. This is a brand that’s hard to find online — there was one other retailer listing it for sale — but at $1,699.

B&H Photo Video has the Denon DRA-397P – XM-Ready Multi-Zone AM/FM Receiver for $359.95 with free shipping and handling. This is the “professional” version of the DRA-397 (hence the “P” at the end of the model number). Except for the “professional” designation, the receiver is identical to the “home” model. I couldn’t find the more commonly available “home” version for less than $399 — saving you at least $39. I’ve had a Denon receiver (similar in specs to this one) for 24 years — it still works great.
